Hiring a private investigator may be necessary when dealing with people who want to avoid being served. At RGH Investigations, we have the experience of all the creative ways someone may try to avoid being served. In the case we will look at today, a businesswoman, notorious for quickly moving around to avoid being served, was uniquely tracked down via a Facebook post.
Social Media can Help!
Facebook has nearly 3 billion users worldwide, making it one of the largest social media platforms available. Though fun to use, Facebook, and those who use it, can document an individual’s travel history and location. With location tags, thousands of friends, and sharing features, Facebook makes it easier than ever to locate someone. Fortunately, it also makes process serving easier, especially when the person being served slips easily away. Often times, these people jump from state to state, leaving behind no trail. Because of social media, a private investigator can follow someone’s old or current posts, photos and location tags to find them successfully. During the COVID-19 crisis, it’s well known that social media usage drastically increased. Facebook alone reported at the end of 2020 that over 1.84 billion people worldwide check and use Facebook daily. That is a 12% increase from before the crisis.
The Savvy Businesswoman
In this case, RGH Investigations was attempting to locate a businesswoman who owned a production company. She was being served for a breach of contract with her company. But, this savvy businesswoman was notorious for moving around. She owned several houses throughout the United States. We attempted to make contact with her at her first property in North Carolina, which we quickly found out was an Airbnb. After our first attempt to locate the woman was unsuccessful, we checked out her second house in California. Again, with no luck, we saw the house had just recently been sold. We then went to her last property in Chicago, but found that this property belonged to her parents. To help build the story, we turned to social media.
Facebook Post from Florida
Our investigators saw on the woman’s Facebook that she made a recent post. The woman tagged her location in the post, leading us to Miami, Florida. RGH contacted another private investigator in Miami for their help. We were previously aware of three possible locations that she could be at. Judging by the background of her Facebook photos, we could narrow down the options. After taking an aerial view of each of the three locations, the investigator determined that one of the backgrounds matched the Facebook photo! The Miami investigator carried out the process serving, and was successful.
