This was a unique spousal investigation that you wonder if it should be a “made for TV movie” like on Lifetime. We were called by a wife, mother of three children, asking for us to do a complete sweep of her home. When we asked what she was searching for, she said a hidden camera. That was the nicest part of the story. Let me explain.
Slipping a Mickey
If you’re not familiar with the phrase, it started here in Chicago at a bar downtown some years ago. When the crowd would be a bit too rowdy, the bartender would slip a drug into their drinks so they would be easy to handle and get thrown out of the bar.
In our case, the wife sometimes had a hard time falling asleep. Her doctor prescribed her a sleeping pill to help things along. Every once in a while, her husband would ask if she would like a glass of wine. ‘Of course,’ she would say. After enjoying the wine, she would simply pass out with no recollection of falling asleep, getting upstairs and into bed.
Since this had occurred a few times now, she approached her husband and asked if he was giving her some sort of drug. To everyone’s surprise, he admitted to her that he had crushed up her sleeping pill and put it into her wine. When she questioned why he would do such a thing, he answered, ‘sex’. Yup, you guessed it, he was ‘having his way’ with her passed out in the bed.
Take a Hike! For a Week.
The wife wasn’t sure how she felt about this, so she asked him to leave for a week while she sorted this through in her mind. Since meeting her husband in high school, they’ve known each other for over 20 years. Never had anything happened like this before. Could it be the pandemic that caused the two to argue, sleep in separate rooms? With being in the same house for two years, constantly in close proximity, would this change a person?
The husband agreed to leave for the week. During this time, she decided to search his things to look deeper into the change in her husband. She looked in the most obvious place, his office desk and personal computer. It wasn’t password protected, so it was easy to enter. What she found disturbed her: video tape of them having sex (well passed out sex) along with other videos of couples having sex in the same manner and situation. Then she found the website where their video was shared with others.
The Search
Okay, next step. How did he videotape this? She searched everywhere in the house including the basement. Wow, this guy didn’t hide anything. In the basement she found the tripod with the camera on top. She had plenty of evidence and was not okay with the situation.
Reporting to the Police
The wife called the police and told them what was going on. They issued a warrant for his arrest and waited for him to come back into town. She knew when. As soon as he arrived, he was arrested and charged. He didn’t have a prior record and nothing had occurred in the past. He moved out into his own apartment.
This was troubling to the wife and gained the support of her family and friends. Her sister, whom she wasn’t in close contact, stepped up and came over to stay. Her father and other friends did the same so she felt safe at night. Again, something strange was happening. Following the family or friend’s night stay, she would find posts on her husband’s Facebook account making reference to conversations she had with them the previous night. But how?
Performing a Sweep of the House
This is where RGH Investigations entered the story. The wife contacted us and asked if we could do electronics sweep of the house, or a spousal investigation. After she explained the experience, we got to work. It was a thorough search of every room in the home including the basement, closets and patio. We found an old baby monitor with a camera and listening device with WIFI capabilities plugged into the living room area.
After we found the camera, we kept it right where we found it and contacted the authorities. It was critical that the Police inventory the device. Additional charges were made against the husband, and the listening device was removed from the home. As you can imagine, she felt safer now that the device was found.
The Not So Sweetheart
The x-wife now, moved from the location and filed for divorce. Her and her children are now safe with the support of her family and friends.
